Bishop Danilo’s mausoleum on Eagle’s Rocks On Eagle’s Rocks, hillock that dominates on south-east part of Cetinje field, was erected mausoleum of bishop Danilo, founder of the dynasty Petrovic-Njegos. Mausoleum was built in 1896, according the idea and plan of princess Jelena, in cooperation with French architect Fruses and sculptor Votier. At the very edge of the plateau, below the canopy which is carried with four pillars, it is laid sarcophagus. On its grave stone, in superficially relief are represented symbols of sacred and secular power of bishop Danilo. On the west side of the sarcophagus, in circled medallion is represented relief of bishop’s head profile, made in bronze. Asphalt road takes to the mausoleum and plateau, out of which is extended beautiful view on historical nucleus of Cetinje. ![]() ![]() See more >>> |
